While the iconic blue doors of The Louisiana Children’s Museum (LCM) on Julia Street have closed permanently, the doors to the museum’s new 45.5 million location in New Orleans City Park opened to everyone's delight on August 31. The new museum expects to host more than 250,000 visitors a year.

The 8.5-acre campus is home to five new interactive exhibits. (Don’t worry: The “lil’ grocery store” and the bubbles exhibit remain, but they’ve been reimagined.) The museum also houses a new literacy center as well as Acorn, the museum’s café. Run by Dickie Brennan & Co., Acorn features a waterfront dining porch.

Additional outdoor elements include gardens, a floating classroom and an interpretive wetlands area.

According to a news release from LCM, the new location allows the museum to connect children to nature in a way they haven’t been able to before.
