Years from now when your kids think back on Thanksgivings when they were growing up, chances are it’s not the food they’ll remember most, but the family fun.

The touch football on the lawn with the cousins.

The aunt who put black olives on all her fingers and chased the kids all around the house.

Playing classic board games like Sorry and Clue with grandma and grandpa.

Here in New Orleans, there are three more ways to make memories with the kids. Make this a Turkey Day they’ll remember long after the last dish has been put away.

Make plans to attend one – or all – of the following:

Turkey Day Race in City Park

Head to City Park for 8 a.m. Thanksgiving morning and run off that dinner you’re about to eat at the 111th NOAC Turkey Day Race in City Park. Along with the 5 Mile race, there’s a Kids Half-Mile for ages 2 to 15. Learn more.

Bayou Classic Parade

On Saturday, November 24 at 9:30 a.m., The Grambling "Marching Tigers" and The Southern "Human Jukebox" will lead the 8th Annual Bayou Classic Parade from the Superdome to the French Market. Come see floats, marching bands, military units, members of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club and more. Everyone in the family will love it.

Celebration in the Oaks

While it's closed Thanksgiving weekend, Celebration in the Oaks in City Park is open from November 23 to 25 and from November 30 through New Year's Eve. Kick off the holiday season in this magical wonderland. Come take a train ride under the famous oaks filled with hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights. See Santa, Mr. Bingle, a Cajun Night Before Christmas and the Who Dat Tree. Learn more.
